Description: Mental
warm-up exercise for a library design: this was an exploration into
creating a building without walls, at least in the traditional sense.
I was motivated by the notion that walls generally tend to separate
us from something. There are physical walls but also metaphysical
ones as well. There are those in our mind, existing paradigms of
thought, that act as barriers to discovery. How can we circumnavigate
these obstacles? What if there were no corners to turn? What if
there were no edges per se? What if the distinction between wall
and roof was made ambiguous? What might a 3D expression of this
notion look like?
Out out, you silly wall.
The one between you and me.
Out out, you silly wall.
The one between knowing and not.
Out out, you silly wall.
My roof has found another way.
Out out, you silly wall.
The one between the between.
Out out, you silly wall.
Better now an infinite line
Out out, you silly wall.
Let us turn the corner on its side.
Out out, you silly wall.
Connect the dots for delight.
Out out, you silly wall.
Twist and....whisper.
Out out, you silly wall.
As edge, you are no more.
Out out, you silly wall.
Now watch me turn, turn, turn.
Out out, you silly wall.
No longer do you divide.
Out out, you silly wall.
But your ghost runs through us all.
Out out, you silly wall.
OUT OUT! You silly wall.
