Description: Club
had outgrown its original building in Shell Point, Florida. Site
is adjacent to their current clubhouse and there was a desire to
either add on to the existing structure or build a stand alone structure
but connect it to the original. Program and building form was straightforward
and partly a function of budget.
We needed an elevator for vertical accessibility
into both the new building and the original building. I used this
as an opportunity to mediate the two structures, turning the accessibility
problem into a strong visual statement and icon for their club -
a lighthouse!
The multi-level decks are needed to accommodate
the large crowds during regattas and club functions.
New building and decks as designed utilize
concrete board siding, engineered lumber for beams and HDPE (recycled
plastic) decking. Cross ventilation allows the club to take advantage
of the afternoon sea breezes and passively cool the building.
